Mysterious discoveries
On Earth, almost no white spots. But almost every year we read about sensational finds made by archaeologists. About the most mysterious of them, secrets which are yet to be disclosed, says a new German book.
Much in the book “Things that could not be” perceived ambiguously. Already Chapter titles: “Shot Neanderthal”, “Antique computer”, “Ancient aliens” and so forth, cause distrust. But quite bold in some of his conclusions, the author Reinhard Habeck (Habeck Reinhard), as a rule, adheres strictly to the facts.For example, he very carefully describes was found in the early twentieth century on the seabed close to the small Greek island of Antikythera a subject that many (and not only Habeck) called “ancient computer”.

An astrolabe from the bottom of the sea
Model, exhibited in the German Museum in Munich, shows that it is a very complex mechanism consisting of multiple gears of different sizes linked together in different planes. Most “computer” is reminiscent of a modern astrolabe. It allows you to keep track of the solar and lunar calendars to calculate the trajectory of planets and to determine the position of the stars. This is not surprising today, but “the mechanism of Antikythera” was assembled in periodid 150-m and 100-m years BC! Continue reading
