Open Kostroma archaeologists in the twenty-first century

Archaeological exhibition “trail of secrets” in the Art gallery of Kostroma Museum-reserve. The exhibition presents the results of the latest archaeological research on the territory of Kostroma region.

Fund “Archaeology” is one of the most significant and large-scale temporal coverage of the material funds of the Kostroma Museum-reserve. In total, he has more than 210 thousand exhibits more than 400 separate collections and archaeological artifacts. Thanks to the resumption of the archaeological Museum-reserve this Fund is annually replenished. The Kostroma citizens and guests of the city for the first time can get acquainted with the artifacts found during the excavations of the ancient chronicle cities in the region — Galich, Nerekhta, Unzha, Kostroma. Historical past of the region in the early middle ages is represented by materials of the ancient Onoro, ground burial mound Kusinska farm.

The culture of the rural population of the Kostroma Volga region is illustrated by the finds made during excavations of the settlements of the Tower and Teterinskoe.

The exhibition features household items, weapons, coins and jewellery from different eras. A number of items (the cross-encolpyon, clay rattle) have no analogies in the collection of Kostroma Museum-reserve. The exhibition also will tell you about archeology as a science, its methods, the work of arheologov their way of life in the expedition. Visitors will have the opportunity to visit the dig, to look into the expedition tent and learn how archeologists work, what tools to use.

The rich archaeological heritage of Kostroma region allows you to raise the life, art and religious beliefs of ancient peoples. And materials exhibition will show how close to us in everyday life are the monuments of “hoary” antiquity.
